Alice Rothchild is a physician, author, and filmmaker focused on human rights and social justice. She is the mentor liaison for We Are Not Numbers, a board member of the Gaza Mental Health Foundation, and a steering committee member of Jewish Voice for Peace Health Advisory Council. Her most recent visit to Israel, the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza was in July and August 2023.
Alice is the author of several published books, including “Broken Promises, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma and Resilience” and “Condition Critical: Life and Death in Israel/Palestine.”
Her most recent book, “Finding Melody Sullivan,” is a young adult novel exploring contemporary themes from intimate questions about grief, friendship, communication, and love, to the larger struggles around God, religion, and the building of a more just society. Her middle grade novel, “Old Enough to Know,” will be published in December 2023.
She has made notable contributions to a number of anthologies, the most recent being “Reclaiming Judaism from Zionism: Stories of Personal Transformation” and “What Jerusalem Means to Us: Jewish Reflections and Perspectives.” In addition to her writing, she directed the documentary film “Voices Across the Divide.”
Over the years, she has received Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston’s Women Doctors Award, was named in Feminists Who Changed America 1963-1975, had her portrait painted for Robert Shetterly’s Americans Who Tell the Truth, and was named a Peace Pioneer by the American Jewish Peace Archive.
